BOSTON LAGER – ALMOST THERE!
I have to admit that I was a bit nervous to brew a lager because it was my first time. After several brews of APA, IPA, DIPA and stout I finally decided to test a lager that would be possible to brew in my garage and ferment it in my second fridge, however I was worried if able to get the temperature right and the Boston Lager recipy that I found had a set up for temperature that would work.
The brew has now been fermenting for 14 days at +12C and I have been able to keep the temperature somewhat stabile between 11.3-12.4C during the whole time. The brew day was awfully warm and I wasn’t able to lower the wort temperature below +18C before putting it in the fermenter and it took 10 hours in the fridge to get to +12C. Now the last two to three days the temperature will be increased to +17C before it goes to a keg and a week in the keg it will be carbonated and ready to enjoy together with my sons who will come and pay a visit during their summer break from their university studies.
The OG was 1.058 and FG (now) is 1.017 which gives ABV at 5.38% and it is spot on. The colour is slightly brownish more to yellowish and it tastes great already. Happy home brewer here and we will be able to enjoy summer-beer-for-BBG during the week my sons are here. Great!
