Winter brews – Stout and Steam Beer
It was a time ago I updated my ’blog’ with some thoughts of brewing and beer. The past months I have had crazy lot to do at work – my real work which has resulted in a less texts from my part. However this December there has been several brews:
Modern Lager with Cascade, Nelson Sauvin and Idaho 7 Cryo hops
American Pale Ale with Amarillo
Goulden Ale with orange peel, Citra and Simcoe
Stout – a traditional Imperial Stout 11% with chocolatemalt, barley, carafa3 etc
Steam Beer which is a malty, crispy and has a wonderful colour. This one will be ready for Christmas Eve and will be enjoyed with Xmas food. Holiday beer.
At the moment there are two batches that are fermenting and Stout will be kegged in a day or two with some pecan oil in the keg. Will see what happens if it turns out to be great or just good – we do not know if do not test….
I have also invested in a glycol chiller and new fermenters från Grainfather and my plan is to brew a lager so that I can really test the equipment during this winter. I assume that I will be able to come down as low as +2C with it since we are having 0C outside and not having the heat on in the brewery? 🙂
The brewery part of my house will get a make over next spring so that there will be fan for boil and own water inout and exit and everything else will be moved out so that it only has brew things in there for the only purpose – to brew. 🙂
